What do dreadlocks smell like

Wet locs are prone to smell after a period of time. One additional tip is to wear a shower cap while you shower to prevent your dreads from getting wet between shampooing sessions. To help keep bacteria and mold from forming in your dreads, try doing an apple cider vinegar rinse after washing your hair. All you need to do is pour one part apple cider vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle and spray it all over your scalp and locs.

Allow the ACV mixture to sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out. You can do this rinse once every couple of weeks to stave off unwanted odors in your locs. If you go this route, follow the directions on the packaging for the best results. Because, once you understand why your dreadlocks are smelling, you can easily find a solution to neutralize the odor. I wash my dreads every day, but they smell terrible! What am I doing wrong? I think we can all agree that washing your hair is a really great idea - but you, my friend, have a case of "too much of a good thing"!

See disclaimer. They can leave behind residue that soaks into dreads. Never apply wax to wet or damp dreadlocks. Doing so locks moisture into hair, causing mold and mildew to develop. Wrapping wet dreads in a cap or hat can also cause mildew to grow.

I would talk to him NewYorkgyrl Well-Known Member. Locks do not smell. If they do then that is do to the hygine of the person. Is your brother taking care of his locks. Lack of proper care to any type of hair relaxed, natural, locks can result in smelly hair as well as dry and dull. Like others may have stated maybe it is mold. If your brother is washing is hair frequently he needs to make sure that he lets it air dry before putting it up into the ponytai.

Tell him to wash that stuff. He don't smell it? Ya'll got my skin crawling. I asked a locked person about this he suggested cleaning the scalp with witch hazel and if it got that rank again spray a mixture of diluted surge braid refresher. If all is lost he stated frebreeze aint bad either mint flavor.

But I have smelled that stench in the gym before Yeah, I agree with his hair not drying properly b4 he puts it in a ponytail. A friend of mine she may be reading this, shampooed her hair and put it in a ponytail to airdry and when she came later that day for me to rollerset her hair I was like erplexed when I took that scrunchie off,.

I said girl you sure you washed this cause it stank, and she was like no it don't, I told her to smell it and she knew it was stinking too, didn't you girl. Anyway we shampooed it and DC and the smell was gone. His might still be lingering a little longer if he had been trying to airdry in that ponytail for awhile, it may take some serious cleansing of the scalp, a very smell good shampoo, maybe even medicated and a smell good deep conditioner and then blowdry the hair dry or sit him under the dryer to make sure it dries all the way.

LOL, thanks ladies! I am going to try to help him out and try running the witch hazel down his scalp while wearing a surgical mask and maybe even help him to wash it once.

I was thinking to send him to a natural hair salon to get them to wash it advise him on how to care for his hair. I used to lock his hair for him but that was b4 he started smelling like that; now I don't even want to be near him when he comes over. I don't want y'all to get the wrong impression I KNOW dreads don't usually smell like that. In fact I have never in my life smelled that odor on anyone, dreads or not. I was thinking it may be some kind of rare fungal thing that someone on our forum knew about.

Anyhoo, if he doesn't get it together I'm going to suggest that he stop coming by Lotus New Member. Also if he is applying a heavy oil and his hair is still soaking wet his hair is probably not getting dry quick enough.
